Well, I’m just not convinced....It’s mainly just a race for “bumps” in order to get noticed by newcommers so that they subscribe to your tribe...

For some reason I managed to rack some 4000+ people to register to my tribe, but what for?? Large amount of posts is rewarded more than proper full length articles. The goal is to create as much posts as possible to rack bumps, quality be damned.

“Tribe Nation”whcih is supposed to promote quality stuff from lesser tribes, is more or less a circle jerk of the biggest tribes contents being reshared once again... Those same tribes which got featured way before the website was even opened in beta.

So all in all, I’ll probably keep posting stuff in there once in a while, but I certainly won’t bother writing anything. The stats are quite appealing also and show how much people don’t care about full length articles. I ended up with more “bumps” than actual clicks on some of the old articles I have reshared, meaning that people just don’t really care about reading anything. They want some sort of an Instagram combined with a Twitter for cars, which is what it is becoming. Short content, that you, as a user, skip through in a couple of seconds.

Quantity of posts over quality. Throw in jaw dropping pictures, 10 times a day, you’ll do very well! Try to focus on write ups, that take time and upload one of those a day at best, you’ll be rewarded with 15 clicks on it and that will be it.

So, it’s interesting, some good stuff on there, but not what I was hoping for...

I’ve come to the same conclusion. I reposted older articles of mine in appropriate tribes, which were well received, but did no better than a simple picture that takes far less time to craft. Not knocking photographers - serious ones put a lot of work into that art form as well. But a quick untouched snap of a race car flying by seems to do just as well on DriveTribe.

The final nail in the coffin for me is that they’re not even showing me posts chronologically. They did at first, and that was when I got the most bumps and comments. But now they seem to have switched to some weird algorithm like Facebook, which doesn’t seem to be showing my stuff nearly as much.

I’d hoped that DT might be a Kinja that actually worked, but that’s turning out not to be the case. I’ll still check in, and my FR-S/BRZ/86 tribe has gotten enough members to go public, but I won’t be posting as much as I thought I might.

Glad I’m not missing out on anything. I like it here.

Considering the lack of control over your content and the fact that drivetribe essentially reserves the right to take your content without permission or attribution, I have no intention of signing up.

You can find me on Wheelwell, where Im able to write and get credit (writer for their blog as well as general user). Its no replacement for Kinja as far as user base and flexibility, but Kinja is unique in the blogging world. Almost like a mashup of Wordpress and Tumblr.

If people enjoy things over at the Tribe, go nuts, but that EULA is keeping me far away.

In all fairness, kinja’s EULA is not better...

No, Kinja isn’t necessarily better, but the ownership of content is retained, and that’s worth a lot. Never stopped anyone from copying someone else’s work, but if a FP blog shares content, credit goes where credit is due.

DriveTribe straight up says it could repost with zero attribution. That’s not something I agree with, and I do not have an account with them, nor do I plan to open one.
